Lot 5241 ORNATE EMERSON & SILVER MODEL 1840 NCO TYPE SWORD.

Blade 31". The ricasso is marked "EMERSON & SILVER TRENTON NJ.", a U.S. contractor during the Civil War. The slightly curved etched blade has a thick spine and blunt edge. Right side of blade features an American Eagle over marking "E PLURIBUS UNUM". Left side is marked "U. S." Ornate brass hilt & peened pommel with guard. Braided brass wire wrapped handle. The leather scabbard has 3 brass mounts. The model 1840 was issued until it went out of service in 1878. CONDITION: The blade retains sharp, clear etching & original polish showing scattered spotting. The hilt exhibits a light tarnish. The leather scabbard shows age related wear & cracking.
